Typically, sapphires, rubies and diamonds are the most popular choices for everyday wear jewellery as these gemstones have a high hardness rating.
Another factor to consider is the carat of gold used for the rest of the jewellery piece. For example, 9ct gold is more durable than 18ct gold as it features a higher quantity of alloy metal, and less gold, which is a soft metal. This doesn’t mean that 18ct pieces aren’t suitable for everyday wear, though, as they are still able to be worn regularly without issue.
