Top Tips For Buying Men’s Diamond Jewellery

Purchasing jewellery can be a risky game unless you’re sure you’re checking out with a reputable jeweller. Here are our top tips to help you pick a piece of quality diamond jewellery:

1. Decide on your style

Are you someone who likes to go big with eye-catching, heavy chains, or a man who prefers adding just a touch of shine with a simple diamond stud earring or ring? Once you know the look you’re going for, you can start to add pieces to your jewellery collection with confidence.

2. Research the specs

Any jeweller worth their salt will list all product specifications on their website, and be prepared to answer any questions in-store or over the phone. Make sure the gold you’re buying is crafted from solid gold with a full British hallmark stamp - and the diamond certified.

Here at Hatton Jewellers, all of our diamonds are WGI certified so you can rest assured that the carat, cut, clarity and colour (otherwise known as the 4 Cs) displayed on our website is verified, and will arrive to you with those exact specifications.

3. Find value for money

If you’re happy to splurge some cash, then an 18ct gold ring adorned with a whopping high-quality diamond is always going to be the most extravagant option. However, if you’re looking to be a bit more conservative with your spending there are a few options to help you get the most bang for your buck:

  • Buy 9ct gold - it has all the durability and shine of 18ct gold without breaking the bank
  • Compromise on stone weight, rather than quality. You’ll be able to get a slightly smaller near-flawless diamond for a much better price compared to a large stone with visible imperfections
  • Consider the diamond’s carat category. For example, there won’t be much difference in the price between a 0.96 carat diamond and a 0.99 carat diamond, whereas a 1 carat diamond in the category above will be notably more expensive. Choose a gemstone that just falls under the next category if you can
  • Buy now! Diamond prices are increasing, and the longer you wait the higher your diamond jewellery is likely to cost. Invest now and you could see your solid gold diamond jewellery increase in value in the coming years.
