Cardi B
Cardi B has been making all the headlines this year and her engagement ring was no different. The 11-carat tear-drop diamond ring reportedly set back her fiancé, rapper Offset from ‘The Migos’, a whopping $500,000.
Meghan Markle
Possibly the biggest wedding of 2018, Meghan Markle’s engagement ring certainly didn’t disappoint. Set on a yellow gold band, the main diamond is estimated to be around 3-5 carats with smaller 0.75-carat diamonds on either side. Prince Harry highlighted that the smaller diamonds were from his mother’s jewellery collection to “make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.” A beautiful design and a nice tribute to the late Princess Diana.
Kim Kardashian-West
As two of the most well-known celebs in the 21st century, Kim Kardashian’s engagement ring from Kanye West was always going to be pretty extravagant. With a price tag of $2 million, the 15-carat D-flawless cushion-cut diamond from jeweller Lorraine Schwartz was even more stunning than we expected!
Marilyn Monroe
One of the most famous engagement rings in history, Marilyn Monroe was gifted a stunning platinum eternity band complete with 35 baguette-cut diamonds from baseball legend Joe DiMaggio. DiMaggio’s proposal was very spontaneous so this was technically more of a wedding band, although most people describe it as Monroe’s engagement ring. There are also rumours this wasn’t actually her original wedding ring, but rather a ring that was given to her at a later date. Either way, we love the simple-but-elegant style that remains popular even today.
Kate Middleton
Another royal wedding to add to the list, Kate Middleton’s engagement ring from the Duke of Cambridge, Prince William, was something a little more special. The 18-carat oval sapphire, surrounded by 14 solitaire diamonds was actually Princess Diana’s engagement ring when she was engaged to Prince Charles. Whilst it cost a humble £60,000 when first purchased, the ring is now estimated to be worth over £300,000.
Blake Lively
Ryan Reynolds popped the question to Gossip Girl star Blake Lively back in 2012 with a beautiful 12-carat oval-cut diamond ring. The $2 million stunner also boasts an intricate rose gold pavé diamond band to give it some extra sparkle. This ring was also said to have inspired Justin Bieber’s engagement ring for Hailey Baldwin, which we’ll touch on further down the list.
Mariah Carey
One of the most expensive rings on this list was worn by none other than Mariah Carey. The 35-carat emerald-cut diamond set in platinum cost Mariah’s billionaire fiancé an incredible $10 million. Quite a lot of money for a wedding that was called off just ten months later!
Paris Hilton
Actor Chris Zylka proposed to Paris Hilton with a stunning $2 million ring that has a striking resemblance to Cardi B’s engagement ring. Paris holds the twenty-carat tear-drop diamond ring so dear to her that she even had three replica pieces made for travelling. This tear-drop style is one that seems to be getting increasingly popular in recent years.
Amal Clooney
This stunning emerald-cut 7-carat diamond ring with two tapered diamond baguettes was bought by Hollywood star George Clooney for a reported $750,000 when he popped the question to his fiancée, Amal. The gemstones were all ethically mined too, so props to Mr Clooney on that.
Mary-Kate Olsen
Olivier Sarkozy proposed to Mary-Kate Olsen with an antique Cartier ring boasting a European-cut 4-carat diamond surrounded by 16 sapphires. At an estimated $81,000, the ring was a steal compared to some of the other pieces on this list.
Heidi Klum
German model Heidi Klum was gifted with a 10-carat canary yellow-centre diamond set in a gold band of pavé diamonds, worth an estimated $150,000. British singer Seal apparently popped the question back in May 2005 whilst the couple were staying inside an igloo in the Canadian Rockies; a brilliant location for a romantic proposal.
Natalie Portman
This stunning conflict-free diamond ring set in recycled platinum was designed by jeweller Jamie Wolf costing an estimated $200,000. The ring was used by French dancer Benjamin Millepied to propose to Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman back in 2012.
Scarlett Johansson
Journalist Romain Dauriac proposed to Scarlett Johansson with a vintage-inspired 1.02-carat cushion-cut diamond ring, surrounded with two prominent accent stones. The stunning piece draws inspiration from the Art Deco period as a nod to Dauriac’s French roots.
Gabrielle Union
NBA star Dwayne Wade bought this 8.5-carat cushion-cut diamond engagement ring for his fiancée, Gabrielle Union, back in 2014. The custom-made ring was designed by a high-end Beverly Hills jeweller that worked closely with Wade on the piece, reportedly setting him back nearly $1 million.
Camila Alves
Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey chose to pop the question to his long-time partner, Camila Alves, on Christmas Day of 2011. The beautiful ring features a rose-cut diamond in a prong setting, with smaller diamonds on either side and a platinum band.
Catherine Zeta-Jones
This antique ring from luxury jeweller Fred Leighton features a 10-carat diamond surrounded by 28 smaller diamonds with an estimated value of $1 million, but is likely worth more now due to inflation. Hollywood producer Michael Douglas used it in his proposal to British actress Catherine Zeta-Jones back in 2000.
Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie’s 16-carat engagement ring took her fiancé, Brad Pitt, along with international designer Robert Procop a whole year to design. Reportedly costing $500,000, you can really see the thought and care that went into designing the ring.
Miranda Kerr
Australian model Miranda Kerr was given this beautiful engagement ring when her entrepreneur fiancé, Evan Spiegel, the co-founder of Snapchat, popped the question back in May 2017. The ring features a round brilliant-cut diamond flanked by tapered diamond baguettes on an intricate platinum band, rumoured to have cost Spiegel between $75,000-$100,000.
Hailey Baldwin
Justin Bieber’s engagement to Hailey Baldwin was one of the most talked-about stories of summer 2018. The beautiful piece was designed with just a few weeks’ notice by luxury New York jewellers Solow & Co, taking inspiration from Blake Lively’s engagement ring with an oval-cut diamond centrepiece that experts have estimated to be somewhere between 6-to-10-carats.
Melania Trump
Another one that wasn’t technically an engagement ring, this breath-taking 25-carat diamond ring was a 10-year anniversary present from Melania’s infamous husband, Donald Trump. The beautiful ring was first noticed in Melania’s official White House portrait, reportedly costing Trump a whopping $3 million. A beautiful ring but maybe not the best use of government funds!Whilst these engagement rings may be slightly out of the budget you had in mind, they certainly make for good viewing! Drawing inspiration from some of these different styles, colours and cuts can be a great way to help you understand what kind of engagement ring you’re after. Finding an engagement ring that matches your budget and has the ability to take your fiancée’s breath away can be a difficult task, but when you find the right one it will be so worth it.
